Anosmia
As artist in residence on the factory floor with Feely Stone in Boyle Co. Roscommon, I investigated the scent of stone and endevoured to capture these scents in a perfume. The focus upon the elusive scents revealed the struggle of artistic work in relation to the experience of other workers producing in the context of a factory workplace. The process culminated in a daylong series of performative conversations with individual participant workers sited in a 'returns shed' for flawed monuments. Over the course of these intimately shared participatory events fascinating and comforting insights on the notions of labour, failure, connection, the ephemeral and success were revealed between us while we watched tea dissolve in water in a glass teapot and sucked on stone sweets.
